The technical term is aphorism, a short saying that expresses a generally understood truth. Whether we call them proverbs, sayings, truisms, or maxims, their impact comes from being short, catchy, and easy to remember. In response to people’s questions, I sometimes think of something to say that might be memorable, which is important because of how easily I can forget stuff.
Here, I have written some of those thoughts.
